Great Patented Edwin Hahn No. 4C Smoothing Plane – Corrugated Bottom
A scarce and well-preserved example from Edwin Hahn of Wilkes-Barre, PA, this No. 4C smoothing plane features a corrugated sole and Hahn’s patented design elements, including the Siegley-style lateral adjuster and single heavy iron that uses the cap as a chip breaker. The body retains crisp casting and tight mechanics, with Hahn’s signature checkered tote adding tactile charm. The iron is correctly marked “Edwin Hahn”, and the plane bears the “No. 4” designation cast behind the knob, consistent with Hahn’s unique numbering system. A fine piece of early 20th-century American toolmaking, blending innovation and craftsmanship.
