Lie Nielsen’s Small Chisel Plane never fails to turn heads. It has the cutting edge of the iron at the very front of the plane, allowing it to function like a paring chisel with depth control. This uncommon plane is typically used to clean right up to the end of a rabbet after bullnose and rabbet planes have done most of the work.
Chisel planes also work very handsomely as trim planes for cleanly flush-cutting pins, tails, through tenons or plugs, and for paring away dried glue squeeze-out. This small plane has a cherry knob and a sleek 1-3/4″ wide bronze body. The bed angle is 12° for clean cutting especially on end grain.
